(4) The Basel Society desire to resume work in Hongkong and to apply to the Trustees for the use of their property for this purpose.

We should be extremely grateful if steps could be taken to deal with this matter as soon as possible. Communications with Hongkeng are slower than with most of

the other areas in which German missions were at work. Now

that the way has been opened by the decision of the Secretary of State for German societies te resume their work, they are

eager to do me at the earliest opportunity. In most other

areas plans are already wall advanced and an understanding has been arrived at both with the escupying British or American missions and with the Government. I hope that this

letter and the copy of my letter to the Secretary of State will explain the position sufficiently to enable the Trustees to take whatever action they judge best with a view to bringing about a settlement as speedily as possibles

The question of the monies held by the

Trustees on behalf of the Rhenish Mission is, we understand,

one of exceptional urgency and if it can be done it would

sem desirable that it should be dealt with at ence,

We are

informed by the Ehenish Society that their missionaries in the Kwangtung Province are suffering great privations through lack of funds. If we have been rightly informed,

the Trustees are willing to transfer these monies to the

Rhenish Society to help their missionaries in China in the

present distress, but there has been some question regarding

the propriety of this. If these difficulties have been

cleared up or if the recent decision of the Secretary of

State makes the question saaier, it would be appreciated by

the Rhenish Society if this particular peint could be dealt with as soon as possible.
